When you think of Florida, you picture the bright lights from downtown Miami, Ocean Ave, the clubs, and the notorious beaches. But then you remember there is much more to Florida than just Miami. There are other amazing places such as the Florida Keys. For instance, Key Largo which is famously mentioned in the Beach Boys song “Kokomo”; and the most popular island of all, Key West. Only 90 miles from the forbidden country, Cuba.

I had a wonderful adventure staying at Key Largo and taking a road trip to Key West, which is about a 3 hour drive. This was my first time experiencing the Florida Keys. I was able to learn the history of the island and to see how much the Spaniard influenced in the architecture of the buildings.

I visited the home of one of the greatest authors to have lived, Ernest Hemingway. It was the most beautiful home and piece of history I have visited. I also made a stop at the 90-mile mark. Being Cuban I had to stop there. I was closer to my family’s history by visiting this milestone.

There are just so many wonderful sites to visit in the Keys. It is very relaxing and you are able to enjoy the view of the ocean. It is a nice piece of history to visit. So if you are looking for somewhere to spend a nice relaxed vacation and experience the beach, boat rides, scuba diving, and fishing the Florida Keys is the best place to visit. Especially, if you want to witness a breathtaking sunset.
