Sunblock Exposed

When getting ready for a beach trip the first thing that we pack is the sunblock.  As much as we might love the sea, nobody wants to come home looking and feeling like a sizzling lobster.  Skin damage however, goes beyond a simple sunburn on a summer day. The skin is exposed to the sun all year around. Even on a cloudy day, eighty percent of the sun’s ultraviolet rays pass through the clouds. This makes us vulnerable to sun damage, skin cancer, and premature aging.

Sunblock or Sunscreen should be used everyday if you are going to be under the sun for more than twenty minutes. If the traditional thick sunblock cream is not your ideal shield from the sun for your everyday use; nowadays sun protection is available in many cosmetic products. Moisturizers with SPF are great and non-messy products to not only help you hydrate your skin among other beneficial factors, but also blocking it from sun damage. Moisturizers with SPF are also very convenient because they can be applied under your makeup and be blended in with your skin tone.

When choosing the right sunscreen, there are a few key elements to look for in the label. To ensure that your skin is being protected from all of the sun’s rays the list of ingredients should include, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, Mexoryl SX or Helioplex. The words “Broad Spectrum Coverage” could be written on any sunscreen bottle, but those ingredients make it a fact.

Prolonged exposure to heat kills the active ingredients in sunscreen. It is recommended to replace it every year. Although that if you use it as regular as you should, a bottle won’t last you that long. Remember to reapply every two hours, especially if you are going to be in water; and to never use anything less that 15 SPF. Following these recommendations will help you to preserve healthy and damage free skin. Always keep in mind that there is no fun in the sun, if your skin is burned.
